Working with clients on their brand and graphic designs, I’ve found that the go-to sans serif font for most is Montserrat.
I get it – I love Montserrat too! It is a classic font that is easy to read, pairs well with most typefaces and is accessible across most platforms (website platforms, email platforms, Google Docs, etc) which makes it easier to keep a cohesive brand when showing up for business.
It’s also FREE! Which is brilliant for such a versatile font.
That being said, there are some really great alternatives to choose from, right inside Canva, that are not too far off from Montserrat.
In this post I’ll be sharing 5 fonts you can use instead of Montserrat, if you are looking for a sans-serif font that is timeless, legible, and versatile. These options are great to use on your website, email and graphics, making it easier for you to remain consistent with your business brand.
A few things to keep in mind when using fonts:
✅ Play around with the letter spacing and line height to make sure your copy is easy to read. Each font will require a different letter spacing because of their design.
✅ Make sure you pick fonts that allow you to increase the boldness. Some fonts inside Canva will have a separate font option. Eg. Muli Regular and Muli Bold
✅ Test the font properly by using it for a heading, subheading, or body text. Also see what the font looks like when using it in uppercase.

They might all look the same, but when in use you’ll definitely see the distinct differences between each of these fonts. This allows each of them to really stand strong on its own – another reason I love using them for projects!
